Brant over at Air1 wrote a very interesting blog post today called, “Sorry, Miley” in response to her performance at the VMAs on MTV.  In the article he apologizes on behalf of all adults, because as adults we have let the next generation down.

In essence we as adults are here to protect our children and help them grow up to be responsible adults themselves.  We need to sometimes tell them, “No.”  He says, “We’re supposed to step in, too, before you humiliate yourself imitating our own sickness. We’re supposed to say things, impossible-sounding things, like “No.” We know you’re not going to like us; but we’re adults, and adults protect. Kids need adults.”

I can’t agree more.  We have created an industry/society that forgets to protect kids, and instead puts them on pedestals to be admired.  It’s no wonder that kids who grow up in the business of show get more and more outrageous to stay on top of that pedestal.

Billy Ray Cyrus told Entertainment Tonight‘s Nancy O’Dell exclusively, “Of course I’ll always be here for Miley. Can’t wait to see her when she gets home.  She’s still my little girl and I’m still her Dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”

I am happy Miley has a supportive Father, but as a Father I hope that He sits down with her and guides her in the business they are both in.  I know I couldn’t just sit idly by and let the “circus” play out.

Proverbs 22:6  says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  It is easier said than done, because we live in a fallen world with plenty of other influences that are pulling our children away from the way they should go.  But if we don’t stop trying to be buddies with our kids and start being their parents again we don’t even give them a fighting chance.  It is our job to train them, if we don’t others will.
