Everyone has a weak spot when it comes to Cons. That area of the Con that becomes a place your wallet can’t seem to stay closed. For some people it’s all about the comics, for others it’s the toys, and for others artist alley. One thing we can all agree on is that a Con is not a cheap event to attend. For me the area that says, “all your money are belong to us” is the Small Press Area.  The SPA is the place for independent artists to set up shop and sell their comics, art, and other items.  Over the next few weeks I want to focus on a few different exhibitors.

Today I want to introduce you to one of my new favorite artists, Jeff Pina.  You can see more of his work over at his Tumblr page, and more of his work at Sideways 8 Studios.  As I was walking the aisles, I spotted the above artwork, and as a fan of Doctor Who it was an instabuy.  I flipped through his book and found some other prints that I knew my kids would like. My two year old’s reaction to the Bumblebee picture, “THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!”

His comics sounded fun. The Dr. Oblivion series is about what it’s like to be an evil genius and raise a teenage daughter. The Imaginatives series is a sci-fi comedy where the only limits are the imagination. The Imaginatives isn’t a kid’s comic, but is family-friendly in both content and art.

Sadly, the only way to get his art is at a Con where he is exhibiting, however the up side to that is getting a chance to meet him and his wife.
